Byerly Hall is a 35,000 sf architectural gem and home to the newly established Johnson Kulukundis Art Gallery. Seamlessly integrating a modern and adaptable art gallery within a historic building’s constraints, this project offers artists worldwide a space that exceeds their expectations. Designed as a neutral canvas, the gallery showcases mounting systems on every surface, along with a versatile 3D frame that can partition the space as needed.

While the exterior’s brickwork dictated certain design boundaries, innovative mechanical solutions ensure optimal temperature and humidity control, allowing Harvard Art Museums to display their pieces confidently. The grand copper entrance door marks the gallery’s threshold and transforms the act of entering into a memorable moment. Captured during its inaugural exhibition, the photographs below showcase how the renowned Japanese collective, TeamLab, masterfully infused the space with an immersive experience, blurring the lines between art, technology, and viewer engagement.

Art Installations, photography and videography copyrighted by teamLab and Harvard University, respectively. Videos below from the inaugural exhibition of this gallery, Fall 2015.
